Access to clean water is the foundation of health and everyday wellbeing. It helps prevent waterborne diseases and creates the conditions for healthy growth and development. With reliable, safe water close to home, daily life becomes more secure, more efficient, and more sustainable.
Through water, sanitation and hygiene trainings (WASH), communities gain the practical knowledge to safeguard and strengthen their health. Together, access and education create lasting health and resilience for generations to come.
Access to clean water goes far beyond improving health. When clean water becomes available within a community, daily life transforms. Time once spent walking long distances to collect water can now be invested in education, work, farming, or small businesses.
Through the Naserian project within the AMREF Waterstarters program, we see how access to clean water can strengthen an entire school community. Thanks to its new water connection at school, children no longer spend hours fetching water during or after classes. Instead, they consistently attend school and have time for homework, after-school activities, and simply being children. When basic needs are met, space is created to truly thrive.
The impact reaches even further. With water available at school, a vegetable garden was developed where children learn how to grow crops and understand nutrition in practice. By linking water to education and farming practices, the project strengthens self-reliance and future opportunity.
Access to clean water means gender equality. Did you know that in two out of three households, women are the ones who collect water? When water flows close to home, equality grows (United Nations, 2026). It increases independency for women and girls. Women gain time and freedom to focus on education, new skills, or starting their own businesses. Girls are more likely to stay in school. Energy that once went into survival can now be invested in growth.

Thanks to our community, we reached a record donation of €735.700 this year to support sustainable water projects. This will help provide approximately 35,000 people with access to clean water – improving health, empowering communities, and creating opportunities for a better future.
