Amsterdam hosts one of the world's most celebrated LGBTQ+ events: Amsterdam Pride. This colorful spectacle is a significant representation of love, acceptance, and equality. It is known for its beautiful and colorful outfits that brighten up the city streets. During this annual event, people from all over the world come together to celebrate their unique self-expression. The origin of Pride

Amsterdam Pride traces its origins back to 1996 when it began as a one-day event called "Roze Zaterdag" (Pink Saturday). The purpose of the occasion was to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ rights and provide a safe space for the community. Over the years, the event gained popularity and evolved into a week-long celebration of diversity and inclusion.

In 2014, the name was officially changed from "Amsterdam Gay Pride" to "Amsterdam Pride" to reflect the broader and more inclusive nature of the event. Today, it is known as a comprehensive platform that celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex communities, promoting visibility and fostering understanding.

While significant progress has been made in promoting LGBTQ+ rights, discrimination and prejudice persist. Amsterdam Pride plays a crucial role in raising awareness about the challenges facing the community: inspiring positive change and combating discrimination in all its forms.
