Your contribution to clean drinking water
In 2010, the United Nations declared access to clean drinking water and sanitation a basic human right. Yet it remains a harrowing reality that 1 in 4 people do not have access to clean water.
Our mission is clear: to increase access to clean and safe drinking water worldwide. We achieve this together with our customers and partners by supporting projects with a focus on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Read on and find out how you can contribute to these water projects!
With every product you buy from Marie-Stella-Maris, you contribute directly to the realization of water projects. How does that work?
We donate 2.5% of our sales to the Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation. The special thing is that you, the customer, can see the impact of your purchase right in the checkout or at the checkout: you see exactly the amount that is donated to the Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation. With this donation, the foundation invests in sustainable water projects around the world, in collaboration with partners such as Project Maji, AquaForAll, Amref and Women for Water Partnership.
With a total donation of €20, you are already helping someone get a lifetime of clean drinking water. With this contribution, you not only realize access to clean drinking water, but create a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others. It is an investment in a healthier future, better opportunities and building communities of hope.
How we work
The Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation is dedicated to structurally improving access to clean drinking water. We do this by supporting projects with a focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). By carefully selecting our projects and monitoring them during and after construction, we strive to ensure that each project remains a success for years to come.
Local involvement
The project stems from local initiative, giving it full community support. A sense of ownership increases local accountability and ensures proper use of the facility.
Sharing knowledge
To ensure that people understand the value of their new facilities, each project includes a social campaign and/or training on water use, hygiene and proper use of the facilities.
Self-sufficiency
After the completion of a project, we strive to ensure that the local community can take care of the facilities themselves and not depend on further external support.
Partner pays Dogon
Dogon, Mali
Because of your contribution, the successful construction of 10 water towers with solar-powered pumps was realized in Dogon, Mali. This initiative provides safe drinking water for 2,200 families, equivalent to 13,200 people.
In addition, 8 women's gardens are now equipped with water tanks, benefiting 380 women. This optimizes water distribution and reduces the time and effort required by women and children. In addition, 857 hygiene kits have been distributed, contributing to improved community health.
Project Maji
Ghana
We have joined forces with Project Maji to accelerate rural access to safe water with solar-powered sustainable water solutions.
As a result of this partnership, a total of 17 sustainable water points will be set up in rural Ghana over a two-year period. Recognizing the unique water needs of each community, a mix of systems will be set up.
With this partnership, the 17 water points will provide more than 15 million liters of safe water per year, helping approximately 13,250 people get clean drinking water and hygiene!
