Your contribution to clean drinking water

In 2010, the United Nations declared access to clean drinking water and sanitation a basic human right. Yet it remains a harrowing reality that millions of people still lack access to something so essential. According to the United Nations, 663 million people still lack access to an improved source of drinking water, and 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation.

Our mission is clear: to increase access to clean and safe drinking water worldwide. We accomplish this together with our clients and partners by supporting projects with a focus on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Read and discover how you can contribute to these water projects!

With every product you purchase from Marie-Stella-Maris, you contribute directly to the realization of water projects. How does that work?

We donate 2.5% of our revenue to the Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation. The special thing is that you, the customer, can see the impact of your purchase right in the checkout online or at the checkout in stores: you see exactly the amount that is donated to the Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation. With this donation, the foundation invests in sustainable water projects around the world, in collaboration with partners such as Project Maji, AquaForAll, Amref and Women for Water Partnership.

With a total donation of €20, you are already helping someone get a lifetime of clean drinking water. With this contribution, you not only realize access to clean drinking water, but create a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others. It is an investment in a healthier future, better opportunities and building communities of hope.

How we work

The Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation is dedicated to systematically improving access to clean drinking water. We do this by supporting projects focusing on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). By carefully selecting our projects and monitoring them during and after construction, we aim to ensure that each project remains successful for years to come.

Local engagement

The project stems from local initiative, giving it full community support. A sense of ownership increases local accountability and ensures proper use of the facility.

Sharing knowledge

To ensure that people understand the value of their new facilities, each project includes a social campaign and/or training on the use of water, hygiene and proper use of the facilities.

Self-sufficiency

After the completion of a project, we aim for the local community to be able to take care of the facilities themselves and not rely on further external support.

Project Maji

Ghana

We have partnered with Project Maji to accelerate access to safe water in rural areas with sustainable solar-powered water solutions.

As a result of this collaboration, a total of 17 sustainable water points will be established in rural Ghana over a period of two years. Taking into account the unique water needs of each community, a variety of systems will be implemented.

With this collaboration, the 17 water points will provide more than 15 million liters of safe water per year, helping about 13,250 people get access clean drinking water and hygiene!

Partner pays dogon

Dogon, Mali

Thanks to your contribution, the successful construction of 10 water towers with solar-powered pumps has been accomplished in Dogon, Mali. This initiative provides safe drinking water for 2200 families, which corresponds to 13,200 people.

Additionally, 8 women's gardens are now being equipped with water reservoirs, benefiting 380 women. This optimizes water distribution and reduces the time and effort required by women and children. Furthermore, 857 hygiene kits have been distributed, contributing to improved community health.

''Since 2011, together with our customers and partners, we have already been able to contribute more than 2.1 million euros, providing clean water to more than 100,000 people!"
